Helvetica: A Documentary Film by Gary Hustwit
Anybody had a chance to go to a screening of this film, Helvetica? Looks pretty interesting.

You can view excerpts right here.

You can see some of the participants in the film here.

I have always had more of an affinity for Gill Sans and Kabel.
Helvetica is alright... but a little overused in my opinion.

They are... silly hammer and nails... people don't use enough screws or pegs anymore.

But Helvetica is a little too prevalent... why no Charcoal?, no Frutiger?, or even Futura? Any of those are much better Sans Serif fonts.... but , no....
    its always Helvetica, Helvetica, Helvetica....

Because it was a founding... foundery.

I dunno, it's not the typeface I'm interested in thanks to this movie, it's the way people see type, the way they make it say what they want it to say. Typefaces are tools and some use them masterfully while others just... I dunno fill blank space.

Some designers use one, two, three sometimes only four different typefaces all their designing lives and they do outstanding work. I want to hear about the way they use it, the mechanics behind it all, the way to piece the puzzle together.

That is what intrigues me a whole lot. In fact, I find it fascinating.

    Edited to add:

Very good to see you eric! Your presence is much too sporadic on this board, ya know!
