All this Cannon and Nikon stuff! So boring...

Here's what I got

Pentax K-5 II + Grip
Pentax K-x

Somewhere between 15-20 old manual Pentax lenses, mostly primes, but a few tele's.
plus..

Sigma 50 f/1.4 EX HSM...
Sigma 12-24 f/4.5 EX HSM...
Pentax DA 50 f/1.8
Pentax DA 35 f/2.4
Pentax 18-55 f/3.5

I really do prefer those beautiful old lenses though.

A bunch of other bits and pieces, graduated ND filters, cable releases, 5 batteries, etc..

3x PNY 16 GB SD

Fuji 60mm macro
Fuji 55-200 zoom

Thinking of upgrading the RX-100 to the new Mk III version and the X-E1 to the X-E2. The equipment I have works very well for me. I shoot mostly fine art landscapes and architecture.

How do you like the 16-35 f4? I'm considering it myself.

EDIT: prob should update my list. Recently gave most of my DX gear to my youngest, who has shown an interest in Photography. Also, added an old Nikon Push/Pull 80-200 f2.8 zoom.

A Nikon D90 with a stack of lens, flashes, bags, tripods, remotes and accessories… all gathering dust in the back room.

…and an iPod touch 5 which is always in my pocket and takes 99.99% of all my photos. :D

Came here to talk about phones and computers and here is a camera thread (something I have also bewen thinking a lot about lately... talk about good luck ;) )

So I have a crappy kodak dslr from a million years ago that I am a hobbyist with, but I have been thinking of upgrading because I want to be able to do more with my camera than I can presently. Any thoughts on a good place to start? It looks like a great many of you are fairly professional photographers!

It would be hard to find a bad DSLR today. And, a few of the Mirrorless cameras are giving DSLRs a run for their money.

Where to start?
I'd say a camera store. Find one that feels good in your hands, then go from there.

Find something from Canon or Nikon IMHO for a better selection of lens. Look for a Camera in your budget range, then look up online/video reviews to see if its right for you.

My two picks that offer a solid price to performance ratio is the Canon 70D and Nikon D7100. Both are comparable to each other. The Canon has slightly better focusing and amazing video, the Nikon has better tonal range and magnesium body. Both are about same price range at just over $1000 for body only. However a Canon 700D and Nikon D5300 are also great cameras at a slightly lower price point. You can get both in kits (camera and lens) for about $750. However if you looking for a bargain, look for a Canon 600D & 650D, or Nikon D5100 or 5200 used with lens for about $400 or less. Happy Hunting.. ;D

well even though I'm still in hospital I've done some updating of my own:

Tamron 90mm f2.8 macro - 2 lenses in one really (macro and portrait)
Nikon SB700 speed light so I can fire it off camera
Lee 100mm big stopper, little stopper and polariser

can't wait to get home to try the lens and flash out now. the filters will have to wait until I'm fit enough to get out and about again

That Tamron is supposed to be a really good lens. I am replacing my Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 with my new Sigma 50mm f/2.8 Macro. Like you said, two lens in one. Plus my Sigma macro is just OMG so much sharper then the Canon one. But obviously it should be, its more expensive. Its actually as sharp as any L glass from Canon IMHO..

Hey just don't try to use the Speedlite to take snap shots of cityscapes or other landscape shots.. I see fools trying this every time I go to a new city to take shots.. They just can't figure out why something 500ft to a mile away doesn't show up with their new flash.. LOL.. I actually had to explain to someone in Singapore that their flash will only work on stuff about 10meters away.. They had no clue..

I had to do something to get them to stop screwing up the water.. I was taking this shot and few others..
