Nice one mate. There is something about moon shots that i just love, so borrowed for a wallpaper if thats ok ?? :)

Here's a tip for anyone who needs a quick-n-dirty RAW converter/fixer-upper that I discovered quite by accident:

XnView Software · XnConvert

It's FREE, handles both my Nikon (NEF) and Canon (CR2) RAW files, and does a really nice job with basic corrections, can add watermarks and can do things in batch if that's what you want. When I originally got this program I had no idea it could handle RAW files, I just used it for typical graphic file conversion jobs.

Sample pic (converted to JPG for uploading purposes):

Cool thanks for the heads up Chas, look like a worthy piece of kit to have. Thanks

Nice one Brent. I just looked up Cottesloe Beach in Wikipedia. Appears it's near Perth in Western Australia. Must be close to your home?

I see you got yourself a nice camera, Brent ;)
Nice picture, sure wish I had beaches like that here!

All I have the pleasure of looking at/driving in for the next 7 months is short days and snow :/

Nice pics. Also nice HDR Brent.

Here is one I just took a few days ago at Disney Land, Hong Kong.

HDR + Long Shutter Duration + Hand Held = Lucky its not blurred to crap!

Thanks man, but i gotta say, that, that is a nice shot, but to have a long exposure, = very steady hands ;P I could not hold that still for ¼ sec let alone 1/2/3 haha
Well done :)

Thanks, I forgot to mention the lens isn't an IS lens either. I got it in HK last week, happen to run up on a Canon UWA 10-22mm (Japan Made) lens in a shop. It was in shrink-wrap in the display case. Bought it for 350USD. It was the previous model without Image Stabilizer. But being Japan made lens, that made me really really want that lens. Don't see the need to spend 500 more dollars on IS, esp when they are prob made in china and not a good as the Japan ones. Image Quality wise. That and I normally for that lens either shoot a fast shutter speed or just use tripod. 3 f-stops isn't worth 500 bucks IMHO.. LOL

The image would have been much much clearer had I used a tripod. But when we left the hotel the skys were clear so I only brought a UV and CPL, didn't think I needed a tripod on the bright sky's. When we got there however it was overcast. But still very bright sky. Ended up having to do HDR's just for that fact that no matter what direction I shot in, the sky was always blown out. Really wished could have had some bluer sky's this trip. But that super typhoon was pushing a lot of clouds in. We just barely missed that typhoon flying in a day a head of it.

Here are two more from HK. City is Hk shot across the harbor. The truck is some truck at the adventure island park in Hk Disneyland. City skyline is normal pic, just tweaked best I could to adjust for the cloudy overcast. The truck is HDR I took hand held at fast speeds.

Truck: HDR, ISO 100, 15mm, f/4.0, (0@ 1/50sec, -2@ 1/200sec, +2@ 1/13sec).
Skyline: ISO 125, 10mm, f/22, 1/30sec.

A little something for the holidays!

Canon Rebel T3i (600D), Canon EF 10-22mm USM Ultra Wide Angle Lens, ISO 100, 11mm, f/6.3, 6sec. (on a tri-pod)
Purposely underexposed image by one EV stop and brought image detail out with lightroom.
Accidentally took a great number of shots that night in jpeg!!! My wives fault on that from screwing with the camera, but I saved them although the night skies have more grain then they other wise would have if they had been taken in RAW.

Cheers Enjoy...

Joe

We've had a lot (a real lot) of rain here since before Christmas. I live about a 30 minute drive (and then a 30 minute walk) from some great waterfalls. Managed to get out this morning before it rained again and got this.

Very nice shot Nicky. Good use of the 1/3rd rule and water leading from one corner to the next. Makes a much more dramatic photo. Well done.
