Problems reducing PDF file size in Adobe Acrobat X Pro version 10.1.1

I have been having some issues with maintaining the image quality when using Acrobat X Pro 10.1.1. While I know reducing the file size will affect the images it is taking the resolution right down. Before I was using Acrobat Pro version 9.4.6 and it worked fine. Has anyone else had this problem? or knows where I can download a backdated version for Acrobat 9.4.6?

I am using a Macbook Pro, running OS X version 10.6.8 with an intel core 2 duo.

Are you using - reduce file size?
I would use PDF optimizer. Under the Advanced menu item drop down. Then you can set your own specifications for the down-sampling of images.
