Apple Photo Workshop: Planning to go? What do you think?

I got an email on this was surprised to see there's going to be one of these workshops about an hour from where I live. I don't know much about photography beyond the basics, so I'm wondering if I would get anything out of it.

Do you think it would be something actually helpful with real tips on taking photos, or more of a load of basic how-to's mixed with a mostly sales pitch for Aperture/iPhoto/iWork?

I'd say it would probably be worth going to. Just bear in mind that it's presented by Apple and they WILL use to it hype their software.
You can take away what you choose to but I feel one should always listen critically and analytically for the information they need and not allow themselves to be persuaded by marketing.

There was recently a seminar called "Capturing the light", or named something very similar where a bunch of people went to and walked away feeling it was a waste. They said there were a few photography examples, but most of it was pushing products of the person running the seminar.

If you want to learn something useful, find a photography workshop. I'm not trying to put down Apple on this, but the two quotes from their page, that I posted below, really give me the impression that it's mainly going to be about how their software can help you and not how to use their software. I may be wrong on the matter, but it sounds like a typical seminar.

Yeah, I'm really only interested in the "capture" part of all that. I was hoping someone had been to a similar presentation by Apple and could elaborate. I'm thinking there's really not going to be much for me, so I'll probably pass.

I would pass, it looks as if it's more about using the programs with photos you have not about taking the pictures themselves.
