How to use the same Windows installation with Boot Camp and Parallels?

I am going to get XP and Parallels, but I will want to use the same install with Boot Camp as well, so that I can play games that want DirectX 9.

Is there a way to do this? I will probably buy XP before Parallels, so I would like to install it with Boot Camp, then when I get Parallels be able to use that same installation.

You have to install XP via Boot Camp first. Then you create a new virtual machine in Parallels and it'll give you the option to use the Boot Camp partition. It's as simple as that
