Software to restore corrupt compact flash card

Hey I need help! I have a compact flash card reader that is garbage. This is the second time this has happened, I connect it to the Mac and it shows 2 files looking like .DS!~@3. Then I eject, plug it in the camera and it says no images on card so the stupiid reader has corrupted the card ors omething. I didn't even get to see the pictures on it, is there something or some way to recover them if I connect it using the proper cable?? Thanks
