I have a Macbook Pro 5,5 that I'm hoping to install Linux 9.10 on, most likely using a virtual machine. Should I download the 32-bit or 64-bit version? I know my computer is 64-bit enabled, but I've heard things about issues using 64-bit and am wondering if using 64-bit is possible or even worth doing. It says on the Ubunto site "May provide additional capabilities for computers that are able to use 64-bit software," but I don't know what these are or if I really need them.
If in a virtual machine, I don't see the need for 64-bits. You will be allocating it a portion of your RAM. Unless you have very large amount of RAM (in excess of 8 GB), and are allocating your Linux machine over 4 GB, I'm not sure you'll be getting any benefit from it. Probably no harm done either, but no benefit.
