I've successfully installed Vista64 and upgraded it to Windows 7-64bit. Now, i have it set for one processor and 2 gigs of ram. Is there any reason for me to not have it set to use the full resources of 2 processors and 4 gigs of ram?
Does it slow down my mac side or run hotter, or colder, if i turn the resources up? Now, probably wont use my mac side so much while VMware is running, but thought i'd ask.
I use AutoCAD, Revit, and Rhino 3d. These programs are resource hogs.
You can't allocate all of your RAM to a VM because that would leave no RAM for anything else, not even Fusion or OS X. Therefore, it doesn't make any sense. Truthfully, if a program really requires that many resources, you should be running Windows through Boot Camp.
I'd like to upgrade it to 8 gigs later, but that's not while i put 64 on it. It was that i simply already had a legal copy of Vista64
my acer with vista 64 runs like a dream and hasn't had a single glitch in the year i've owned it. It only has 4 gigs of ram.
Why wouldn't i put windows 64 on a VM that has less than 4 gb or ram?
There is zero benefit, particularly in a VM, to running 64-bit if you aren't using at least 4GB of RAM. But hey, if you have it already, might as well use it.
That's not what cwa meant. The primary benefit of using 64-bit Windows is that it can address more than 4GB of RAM which is not possible in 32-bit Windows. Thus, if you're not using more than 4GB of RAM, there aren't really any differences or benefits.
