Windows - Extracting Outlook .pst file back onto Mac

OK, here is a challenge for all of you mac lovers and hackers out there. I just got laid off along with a bunch of other people from my company and it was really nasty. I am considering a lawsuit actually so here's the challenge:

I archived a bunch of emails in MS Outlook at work on my Windows machine and kept that file at home just to cover my butt. I only run Mac at home but I NEED those files for my case. How in the world can I extract those emails from Outlook?

I have Parallels running on my Mac so I can use Outlook Express maybe. I also have Apple Mail and a copy of Entourage I can load. I need help!!

Thanks!!

You will have to use thunderbird as a bridge program to get the mail across, install thunderbird on windows under Parallels

Thunderbird - Reclaim your inbox

Then use the plugin at the link below to imort PST archives

Featured Thunderbird Extension: Import Outlook PST Files into Thunderbird with PST Import

Once in you can install thunderbird on the mac, and copy thunderbirds mail folder over to the mac version of thunderbird to acess the files

I think the location of the mail in windows is
C: \Documents and Settings\user_name\Application Data\Thunderbird\Profiles

THat user can be copied into

Users/ You/library/thunderbird/Profiles - on the mac side

All worked but the final import step.

It took a few tries but I got all the way to the point of importing the .pst file into Thunderbird. When I clicked Tools/import, it would not recognize that I had a .pst file on my computer. I tried to locate it both on a dvd and after I had copied the file to the Windows desktop in Parallels.

It seemed like it was going to work but this final step has got me stumped. Any ideas?

Thanks again.

It looks like people have been having problems with that plug-in

You will have to load the files in to Outlook Express, once in you can then use thunderbird as the bridge to get them across to the mac

Transferring pst files to Thunderbird on the PC is dealt with here

Import .pst files - MozillaZine Knowledge Base

When that works you can transfer the THunderbird folder over as in my first reply

Alright, this will definitly work.

I had the same issue as you, so I downloaded a software called O2M (I think it cost me $15). Basically, this program installs on your Windows computer and it extracts all your email, contacts, etc from Outlook and converts it into a format that Entourage recognizes. After all conversion has completed, copy the converted files onto your Mac.

I use PC for work and Mac at home - this works!

I tried Mail2Mac by WhiteCanyon/Detto, which has two parts. The Windows .exe file converts any and all of your PSTs to MBOX format. Then move the folder from Windows to a Mac desktop, and another Mac program migrates these files into Mail. Pretty easy, and pretty cheap, but the documentation isn't great. I tried calling tech support today. Got transferred a handful of times, with two escalations to "level 2" people, then the phone call was dropped after 10 minutes of waiting.
Also tried using their online chat, which was never picked up by anyone on the other end.

So if you are pretty technically adept, you can figure it out, with a little help from the Detto knowledgebase (which lists things that their own documentation doesn't say), but that should work for you.

What is Parallels? I am the owner of a new MacBook Pro MAC OS X 6.1. I am having difficulty transferring the Outlook 2007 .pst files to the MAC. I transferred a copy of the "C" drive to a Seagate 500 Gb drive. The Apple store transferred all my apps and document folders successfully except for the Outlook folders. They told me they needed a working PC to transfer the Outlook files to use in Apple Mail. I will have to temporarily put my HD into another PC and take it to the store. Is there another way to accomplish this?
Thanks,
