I'm a new mac user and I want to install Office 2008 downloaded from torrent. Can anyone tell me if this won't have any effect on my macbook's warranty?

Buy a full install version.

how about neo office or open office? will they be able to open and edit ms office documents?

We do not allow the discussion of Piracy here at Mac Forums. A Torrent of Microsoft Office is illegal and against the law and therefor the rules here at Mac Forums. In the future please do not discuss any illegal software here.

You can try Open Office which is free and will open pretty much any Microsoft Office file. The new version is very nice and totally free.
