Movable Type Problem

I just downloaded the free version of Movable Type and the Stuffit Expander unpacked it, but that's as far as it gets - just a folder of files on my desktop. Usually programs will automatically guide me through installation. Am I missing something here? How can I install Movable Type on my mac?

Thanks!

Most OS X apps don't have an installer. Sounds like this is one of them. Just put that folder in your Applications folder (or wherever you really please).

Nearly every application I have installed has automatically taken me through the installation process. Why should it be different with this?

By putting the movable type folder in the applications folder, I don't see what good that would do. There is no .exe file or anything else in that folder that I could actually work with, as far as I can tell. How else can I get the program up and running?

there is an application in there somehwere, if you want to take a screen shot of the files in the folder i am sure one of us will point out which icon the application is... I guess you've just been unlucky so far, most mac apps dont' have installers you just place the app where you want it to reside on your hard drive and you're done.

Movable Type needs a mysql database to run, and a server that can do PHP. If you want to run it on your computer, you need to set your computer up as a server.

Thi is a Unix/Linux application - would suggest trying the installation instructions on the Movable Type site.

and what Stretch said.

and the Quick Start guide

is this standard, or is it customarily run on a hosting server? im just looking for the easiest option that would allow me to run a photoblog.

easiest would to use a hosted server.

To get your feet wet, you could give .Mac a try - free for 60 days.
Then you can decide if it's benefits are for you or look elsewhere for a host.
