If you're talking about panning a 2d image (I don't have extended, so I never use 3d commands and just don't know em). You've got several options. First, you can hold down the space bar (which will toggle the hand tool) and then click and drag. You can also tap the H key which will bring up the hand tool and you can click and drag. If you hold down the H while you click it'll pop up the fit to screen image and you will see a box that you can drag around. This will be the area you zoom into when you release the click.
