The bottom line is, every TLD besides .com is worth squat. You need people to remember your URL, and the more confusing it is... whether that be because of length, dashes that don't translate into the spoken name of the site, or a weird TLD, it'll cause you problems.

It's worth throwing away a great domain name that you can't get the .com.

Mac Specs: 2008 and 2011 15" mbps, late 11 iMac, iPhone 4s, and too many ipods and other stuff

But for the cost of a domain it's worth having A record point to a .com CNAME. Arguing otherwise is ridiculous
