I rarely use MAMP - Just for OSCommerce database testing only the odd time.

I use Headdress for testing PHP - Works a treat - http://headdress.twinsparc.com/ - Just define the folder where your file or folder is located at locally. Awesome program, and the best $15 I've ever spent.

Hope this is of some help

Inside the MAMP directory (should be under Applications) there is a directory called htdocs - put them there. This is the default for MAMP. You can also change it if you'd like.
