CSS - 'em' and 'px' font sizing

i want to create a site using 'em', but default text sizes differ between browsers using 'em'?

is there a 'knack' to it, which im missing?

Well, I think that's kind of the point to using em. em is based on percentage of how the individual has set their text size in their browser.

When I first started making my website it was driving me crazy that i couldn't control everything, but that's just how it is. Every browser displays things differently.
