![]() Mac Specs: iMac G4 20FP/1.25 GHZ 768MB ram
|
This is my 1st Mac. I would like to upgrade the ram. From reading the specs it has 2 slots & 1 Gig capacity. Currently there is a 180 pin dimm slot w/ a 256 chip. The 200 pin sodimm holds the 512 user accessable chip. It was installed by the Apple gnomes when I bought it originally. I'm told the slot w/ the 256 can only be replaced w/ tools and talents that I do not possess. There seem to be 3rd market products out there compatible w/ this vintage machine. I saw a 1 Gig chip on "other world computing" web site. Can't tell if it will even physically fit in the user accessible slot. I have never been inside a computer w/ anything but the sledge hammer I used on my PC. Has anyone out there dealt with this issue on a machine this old? Can I use aftermarket products successfully? If so, what has worked well for you? Down side? Any options besides dropping 2 large on a new unit would be appreciated. Thanks everyone.
