Thinking of switching but I need to make sure it will do everything and more my PC does or else what's the point! Although I'm not a big gamer, I still like the odd 1st person shooter. How well do the latest games that are available for mac play on the 2.4GHz/ATI 2600 pro iMacs?

Many thanks in advance

Steve

I would believe that they would run very well...
All my games work great on my mbp's Nvidia GeForce 8600M GT

Thanks for the reply.
Which games are you running and at what settings and resolution? The iMacs only has an ATI 2600 pro which by PC gaming standard isn't much. It's only a £50 graphics card.

If you plan on playing the latest and greatest in games and expect to do so in a high resolution with high graphics details, forget the iMac. Today's games pretty much require having dual-SLI cards to get the bus bandwidth needed for the best experience and you can't get those in an iMac or a laptop of any kind. Heck... I have a new Mac Pro with the lower-end dual-SLI graphics card option that was available and it's not handling BioShock very well with full details at my monitor's native resolution.

I think if you want the BEST settings out of modern computer games its going to cost you an arm and a leg, thats why I stick to consoles for gaming. The only game I really run on my MBP is WoW with the settings all the way up (which isn't that much but my MBP handles it nicely) and I used to play Medieval II: Total War on my windows partition on my MBP with the settings all the way up and it too ran flawlessly. These days however, my mac is windows free.

Unless your willing to pay the price for a jacked up MacBook Pro, and you want to play the latest and greatest FPS's than go with a PC.

Use the Rep System!!
