I bought an iMac due to my pc crashing and the HD dying. I have a lot of pics stored on my iPod that I didnt get to back up. Is there a way to transfer them from my iPod to my Mac?

If you have a PC somewhere, just enable "show hidden files" and you will be able to navigate the iPod structure. But I'm sure there are other ways of doing the same in OS X...

Try this:

Or:

Did that help?

Most unfortunate that you may have lost those pictures. I fear that the copies on your iPod won't be very good when you upload them back to a new computer. I seem to recall that iTunes resizes and optimizes (i.e. shrinks) the photos for the iPod form factor before downloading them. Hence you will not have the originals on your iPod, but rather, size reduced iPod copies.

My Macs: iMac 27" 3.4 GHz, 4 Core, Mac Pro, 3.2 GHz 8 Core, PowerMac G5 Quad, 2.5 GHz, G4 Cube, 1.2 GHz Upgrade
My iStuff: 32 GB iPhone 4, 30 GB iPod Video, 16 GB iPod Touch
My OS': Mac OS X Tiger, Mac OS X Snow Leopard, Mac OS X Leopard, Mac OS 8.6, openSUSE 10.3, Win XP

iPod does keep the originals in the iPod. It's just that it also creates thumbnails for easy display. (unless this option is deliberately turned off in iTunes or something)
