Problem with apple mail and gmail

I'm having trouble setting up my gmail account to my apple mail. I went to the gmail site and followed the directions but still i cannot see my mail or send mail to my gmail account.

I followed basically what the last link says and everything works fine although the mail thats on the server didn't d/l to my inbox.

Are you using Leopard or Tiger? Leopard set mine up for me. All I put in was the username and password.

Are you accessing Mail via IMAP or POP?

Did you configure your Gmail settings accordingly before going into Mail?

Yeah, I set mine up using IMAP, and I haven't been getting any new mail through it.

OP, I just ended up using http://www.google.com/ig as my home page, does more than show my mail.

I am pretty sure gmail is POP, not IMAP.
And also, did you enable POP email forwarding in your gmail settings?

BUT!

If i delete my emails in apple mail, will it delete in my gmail?

and how do i reply emails i got from gmail, using my mac email?

sometime recently they enabled IMAP

I am using Leopard and all I did was create a new account in "Mail" and entered my gmail address and password and mail did the rest.
You should go to your gmail settings page and enable pop, ensuring that you select "save" before you leave the page.

No! Your gmail will retain all your emails if that is what you selected on the gmail settings page. Ensure that you have selected "Keep Googlemail's copy in the inbox". Make sure you select save changes before moving off the settings page.

In Mail you have a choice of which email account you send your emails from. If you have more than one email account you will have a dropdown selection in the "From" box on the new message page.
