.exe wouldent open in osx, but would in windows

i hade a .exe file that i wished to open with an OSX application. The application installed file but OSX kept asking me for a program to open the .exe file with. Is it possible to open .exe files in OSX and if so what program do i open it with?

I tried copying this same .exe file in to windows using parallels and it opened up in windows fine.

Exe files don't open with OS X. That's like a rule. One of the reasons why we have separate programs for OS X from Windows. one of the reasons why we don't have any viruses.

What is the file about anyway?

A .exe is a Windows executable... a program.

.exe's are windows executables. In general, .app are Mac executables. You cannot run a .exe directly under OS X. It simply doesn't support the format nor any of the implied APIs. If you have a .exe you need to run, you need Windows.

In some cases, you can run them using an emulator called "wine", but it comes with setup headaches of its own. Again, in general, you need Windows to run .exe files.

Yh I use crossover which (I think )uses wine. So instead of buying office 04 for mac i installed my windows version via crossover. The only downside is that after a cold boot word from crossover takes ages to launch, but after the initial launch its OK

Why not just use iWork 08? It doesn't cost that much and it is much easier to work with than Office
