Love my Mac, but I seem to be having a problem lately. The machine is shutting down by itself. Even after I put it to sleep, when I come back everything is shut down. And sometimes, it does not start up right away after pushing the power button. Any ideas????

Are you sure it is not just sleeping. Sometimes my MBP takes a few seconds to fire back up.

Is it a MacBook?

Maybe you should call AppleCare.
