I got a copy of Microsoft office today! And after installing it I decided that I didn't want windows media player on there. It won't launch anyway, I just keep getting a message that states that it quit unexpectedly, what garbage!

Anyway I dragged it to the trash and tried flushing it, but it won't flush. That little turd just keeps coming back up. The message says it can't be deleted because it's locked.

What do I do?

Sorry for being so harsh but I'm starting to wonder why I wasted so many years and dollars on the dark side.

you could try...

1: download appzapper. You get 5 tries before the free trial is expired. http://appzapper.com/
appzapper will find all related files to the application you want to install and remove it for you...

That didn't work. Every time I zapped it it created a copy of it's self. Microsoft sure knows how to take the fun out of computing.

To get it to launch delete any prefs w/ the "windows media player" anywhere in the name in the location

Finder>Your HD>Library>Preferences

I just figured it out, see I'm way smarter than those microsoft guys.

I had to go into the application file and select get info for each document. Almost everything was locked up in there. Luckily I could unlock most of it at once.

It's been flushed down for good now. I switched for this precise reason; Microsoft kept telling me what I could and couldn't do to my machine. I'm the administrator, if I want something off, then by all means it is coming off. Microsoft tries to take control too much.

If I remember correctly, you can press option key and empty the trash. That should delete locked files.

You could try throwing Office in the Bin and Getting iWorks '08

I use Office (for Windows) every day. I need something different and refreshing on my own machine.

iWork 08 is smoking. Creating documents is so much fun and it produces some great results. And its compatibility with Word files is even better. I just didn't see the point in keeping Office on my Mac anymore...

Why I didn't look at iWork before hand I'll never know. If I had known that it would make .doc files I'd have bought it straight away. I'm a student and Word and PPT are all I use it for.

I only had to pay $60 for the whole thing though so I guess that's good.

Keynote is 1000000 times better than powerpoint. Even an amateur keynote presentation, done in 10 minutes, floors any audience. I've seen it in people's eyes. Its the real "wow".

Yep. And on a Macbook pro, if its connected to an external display like say a projector, you can see a sort of drawing table with the next slide, previous slide, what's gonna happen if you click next....stuff like that.

Cool

you can do something similar in PowerPoint on Windows but my experience of it in a presentation i was giving last week was not good.

Hopefully Keynote will be better

Do you mean something like that? It's just a nice way of seeing in advance what slide/unloaded section of your current slide that you have to proceed to.

I believe that it shows the time until next slide (if you have set up a timed presentation).
