Well i am completely new to macs. I went to the local apple store a little while ago and picked up a 17" imac. So far I think it is great but still just learning how to use osx. I like the fact that I dont really have to worry about viruses with mac.

Welcome.

Learning the OS is probably the most difficult part. Once you use it for a couple of days you will eventually get the hang of it. It's not hard after that. Welcome again!

Congratulations!
Here are two tips I thought were the most important:
NEVER rename your home folder and be careful when dragging a subfolder into another folder where a folder with the same name exists (OS X is not copy and merge like XP but copy and REPLACE!). If you're not careful there is a risk you could lose valuable data.

Well, I think those were the most important things to know as a switcher!
Have fun with your mac!
