what video format can I edit with my MAC?

I have old home videos using MPEG4 format. What format do I need to convert these old videos into in order to be able to edit them in iMovie?

I would assume .mov would be able to be edited in imovie. Well that's what I would expect.

Yes, you can edit mpeg4 in imovie.
