    External HDD has gone missing..
    Hi

I have a 500GB external myBook Pro Hard Drive plugged in via firewire. For about 3 weeks it worked fine. For some reason the drive can now no longer be found on my desktop. Does anyone know why my HDD would have disappeared and is there a way to get OS X to see it again?

Mine goes away from time to time, and even if I unplug/plug it back in it won't come back. I have to unplug it, turn off the enclosure, turn it back on, then plug it in. It usually comes back then.

I tried that and it still didn't work.

I the Disk Utility app on it and the drive was there but it would not mount.

I clicked on verify and go the following error message:

    Verifying volume “My Book”
    ** /dev/disk2s1
    ** Phase 1 - Read FAT
Unable to read FAT (Input/output error)
Error: The underlying task reported failure on exit

    1 non HFS volume checked
    Volume needs repair
Will I lose my data if I hit the repair button? If I do will I lose my data?

First of all, consolidate your english a little bit.
Second of all, you won't lose your data by hitting the repair button.

Thanks. I tried that it didn't work either.

I just choose to erase the disk using the Disk Utility app and it now shows up on my desktop.
