Using an external USB or Firewire device, or a second mac connected through firewire.
You can use the free software called Carbon Copy Cloner and setup to clone one drive to the other. You will have to format the new drive to HFS+, and then clone it, but CCC may do all that for you in the Beta version. Just try it. If you want to use a second mac connected via Firewire with the new HDD in it, you will have to look up info on how to start the two macs so that the second just acts as a secondary drive.
