After putting it off a bit, I finally walked out of the Apple Store today with my new MBP in hand (15.4", 2.33 Ghz, 2 GB RAM, 256 ATI, 120 GB HD, matte screen, etc.) I took my time unpacking it (with the requisite photos, of course) so as to relish the experience. I've slowly installed a few things here and there and without much problem. One or two minor things, but all the reading I've done here and elsewhere online and in the OS X - The Missing Manual book really helped out. It will take some adjustment to get it all to be more instinctive (and I need to practice using keyboard shortcuts more - I almost never used them in Windows), but I've been able to mostly figure out what I'm doing.

Tomorrow I'll probably look at adding Boot Camp, the external hard drive, and some games on the XP partition. Enjoying the new machine quite a bit so far. I never really had much problem installing things on Windows machines, but MAN...installing things on OS X is a breeze!

Congrats! I'm jealous.. Even though I just purchased a used, last gen. iBook (which is still really fast compared to my TiBook).

Dohhhhh... congrats man! I thought you were gonna wait!?! Three times today I almost dropped what I was doing to go to the Mac store, but I held back.

Why did you get it now instead of waiting to see if there are any updates in store for the MBP in June? What have you installed so far? I'm feeling a little jealous so lemme live vicariously through your purchase for now, gimme some more info! lol... congrats...

Yeah, the plan had been to wait a bit. I had a series of Blue Screens of Death one night with my windows laptop and had convinced myself I was going to just go ahead and switch. I never figured out why the BSoD happened that one night and it never happened again. I really haven't had that many problems with Windows over time (save for the old "Not Responding" crap). The rest of the week, never again. No glitch at all. I'd already gotten it in my head that I was going to get the new machine anyway. The Leopard delay (I think that was announced the same day I bought mine) pretty much cinched it. Now the rumors are leaning toward a new MBP update in the Fall maybe?

I could have waited, but after months of studying up on all things Mac, OS X, etc. I finally decided I just wanted to get it.

I was going to install Boot Camp and some of my games while I'm out of town for two days, but I forgot to bring a CDR/DVDR to put the drivers on for the install. So I'll just wait until I get home to do that. There's been a little bit of an adjustment in switching since I'm so darn used to doing things on instinct in Windows. All the reading I've done on various boards online, reading the OS X - The Missing Manual book, and playing around with Macs in the Apple Store here and there...all that has paid off. I'm usually able to figure out what I'm doing and where I went wrong if I make a mistake.

It's still a little weird in that it's different, but I'm getting used to it pretty quickly.
