Question How to get Messenger/Skype to start in the background?

On my old Windows XP machine it was possible to tell Messenger and Skype not to show them selfs when I started the PC.

I've just bought my self a Mac and have also installed Messenger:Mac and Skype. But everytime I start OS X both IM's start with their dialogs right in my face.

Isn't there a way to get them to start "in the background"?
