im very confused as to what airport is? is it 802.11n? is it the thing thats $1.99 from the apple website? if im getting a brand new mbp do i have to get the $1.99 thing from apples website? im very confused about all this...i was under the impression that 802.11n was in the computer and that you had to buy and download the thing from apple for $1.99 to activate it.

Airport is the name that Apple uses for wireless networking. A new MBP is 802.11g out of the box, and the $1.99 download you are referring to enables the 802.11n - doubling the potential wireless speed.

Well, an airport is generally a place with really long roads called runways that these giant flying machines called planes take off from and land on. There is also a section called the Terminal where passengers check in their luggage and sit to wait for their flights.

Wait what? This ISN'T an aviation forum? Computers you say? Ahhh. Well then, in that case, Airport is just what Apple calls its wireless networking. :black:

Yep, I bought the router at my Apple store, and it works very well...very fast. I'm loving the USB networked storage drive too, I can keep all my videos on it and move my MBP around the house now.

But anyway, the enabler DID come for free with the new Airport Extreme router.

Since that's 802.11g, there's no need to get the wireless-n enabler. You just hook up to it like any other router. Select the network from the Airport menu and type in the password.

The point of wireless is that you don't have to hook anything anywhere

Unless your router has 802.11n, you don't need to spend $1.99. As stated above, your router is still 802.11g, and it is not going to be upgradeable unless you buy a new router.

So save $1.99 and buy a chocobar.
