So with the Merger of ATI and AMD should we expect macs to switch to a different video card provider and if so what kind of support should we expect for older cards.

AMD will probably not stop selling to apple. Apple will probably stop buying, I've noticed in the past that Apple tends to buy many more Nvidia chips than ATI.

I'd actually prefer nVidia chips.
I've had nothing but bad things to say about ATi cards.
In the PC world that is.
I believe my iMac is ATi, althought it doesn't matter to me on Macs.

I think the world will be ok with this merger. AMD is just trying to get a bigger slice of the pie. I hear the new Intel chips are mopping the floor with their current chips

Most likely apple, and I just speculate will go ahead and use nvidia more.
I believe with the merge nvidia and intel will have to cooperate more together, which is not bad if you ask me. Also Apple and Intel's coalition for the home entertainment segment of the market only means better solutions to their customers, meaning us.
However, pc wise, I am thrilled to see AMD and ATI merging.

My Avatar says it all.

Looks like AMD is already dropping prices on their processors. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103562 This processor was $297 just the other day. I wonder if Intel will follow suit.

Yup. Especially with the Core 2 Duo, we can expect heavy price cuts on their Pentium D cpu's.

from what i've read on the just release core 2 extreme, it didn't lose a single benchmark to AMD. not.........a.......single.........one.

http://www.tomshardware.com/2006/07/...out_athlon_64/

i had always been an AMD fan when i was building PC's, but intel has really stepped it up this time with these new chips. i just wish i could put one in my mini! (**** that LGA 775 socket!)

From a G4 400MHz to an Intel Mac Mini to iMac Core Duo to a Macbook Pro 2.6GHz.............gotta love Apple!
QUOTE Thanks
