Macworld has a good article on OS X apps that are worth a look. Check it out, Software Treats: Take control of your system.

DasBoot looks pretty interesting!

I would like to make one little addition here. There are a lot of new users who ask questions like what type of ram should I get for a certain Macintosh. Or what specifications does a certain Mac have. And I think this app should be a standard in every "what apps to mac users need" list.

It is called "Mactracker". And is lists every mac that was ever made and very useful information on each one + more useful tidbits of information.

http://mactracker.dreamhosters.com/

A quick search of this app would eliminate a lot of questions new mac users have.

I like this forum being a new Mac user and all, and as I learn I"m now finding myself answering questions from fellow newbies.....this is the best imho, cause not only can you learn, you can share right away with others who are in the same boat which is above all, cool.
