To support my latest 'crackintosh' habit, I ordered a 2.3 GHz dual core powermac. I ordered it with 1GB of ram, nvidia 7800GT video card and ipod nano with the educational offer. If that wasn't enough excitement, I went to the Dell website and ordered the other item I have been lusting after for months... a 24" flat panel (2407FPW).

I can't wait to get them. I've been so enamored with OS X since my ibook purchase almost a year ago. This is just the tool I need to complete my Ph.D.

Question: I have a 5.1 speaker setup on my PC that I currently use via a sound card. Based on my searches, I know I cannot use all five speakers with the G5, but could I use the sub and two sattelites in a 2.1 configuration?

thanks for the assistance!

The G5 tower has two audio-out connectors: an ordinary headphone-style miniplug, and a TOSLink-style S/PDIF optical audio connector that supports 5.1 output.

Depending on what kind of connections your speakers offer, you may be able to use all five of them.

Congrats man, you're going to love it. I got a very similar machine about a month ago. I am very happy with it. Of course I only ordered a 21.3" monitor to go with it (a Viewsonic VP2130b) but I have been VERY happy with that as well. Enjoy!

My Macs: iMac 27" 3.4 GHz, Mac Pro 3.2 GHz, PowerMac G5 Quad 2.5 GHz, G4 Cube with 1.2 GHz Upgrade
My iStuff: 64GB iPhone 5, 64GB iPad4, 30GB iPod Video, 16GB iPod Touch
My OS': Mac OS X Lion, Mac OS X Snow Leopard, Mac OS X Tiger, Mac OS 9.2.2, openSUSE 10.3

you can get up to a 2GB nano for free. If I recall correctly, I could've received $179 off any of the other larger ipods.
