How, in a nutshell, do you overclock a Mac? Instead of chastising me for not researching, if you know, could you just tell me simply? Thanks.

Seriously? You just paid for it, and now you want to overclock it?

Why don't you wait and try it out first? I'm sure it will be a screamer on its own...

Just enjoy it for a little bit.

Oh, and, aahh, I'm going to have to go ahead and ask you to come in on Sunday, too...yeah

All I know is it takes some expertise and resoldering some jumpers. I've not heard of anyone doing it with a brand new Mac before. I'd be tempted to chastize you solely on that - spending roughly $3000 to potentially destroy it. Relax tonto - your iMac will be plenty

Being a "mad modder" would require knowing something about the workings of a computer, which from your flood of other questions, you obviously don't. First, learn how to use OSX efficiently and then start asking more dumb questions. I really don't mean to get on your case but really, enough is enough.

Sit back for a minute, and realize what an awesome piece of equipment you bought without having to do a thing to it. That's the beauty of what you bought. I'd recommend just sitting back and gloating. If you really feel "the need for speed", build yourself a Windows machine and burn that one up!

I happen to know alot about PCs. If you will look at the acctual questions I asked, you will see that they have to do with Apple proprietary hardware and software, not with "how a computer works."

Well, son, the HArdware INSIDE the Mac isn't "Apple Proprietary", so overclocking a Mac is the same as overclocking any other processor.

With the advent of the Intel chips, Macs are, in reality, just pretty PCs. Since you know so much about PCs, open it up and knock yourself out.

The second you open up the iMac, you have voided the warranty. Of the new iMacs only the revisions before the iSight could be opened without voiding the warranty. The iSight G5 iMacs and the Core Duo's are not customer serviceable except the RAM.

Open it though and CRANK up the Clock and watch it in that thin case get hot and mess up.

Leave well enough alone.

From what I saw at the Apple Store recently it appears to me that, except for the big-box G5, Macs are pretty much un-modifieable in any practical way. Do I have that right? I'm used to tinkering with my PC's guts (since I've been compelled to!) but Macs don't look like tinkerer's toys to me.

Home-built PC's are common as nails. But is there any such thing as a home-built Mac?

Really? Apple motherboards (which are the part that gets tampered with in overclocking) are not proprietary?

hey caveat why do you want to do this so bad. give it chance. if you wanted something to mess aorund with than you should have gotten a pc. your mac is a good machine and probably already better than any pc you ever overclocked. i'm not one to get on peoples case's but your getting annoying.

Why am I annoying? Just because I asked a perfectly valid question about overclocking Macs? So what? Why not just answer, or ignore it? Chances are, I will not overclock it. I am just interested in learning. What would it matter to anyone if I wanted to set it aflame, douse it in French meringue, and then put it up an elephant's bottom? I am sorry this simple question has aroused such pathos! I only wanted to learn something new. Forget it. Sheesh.

I gave you an ACCURATE answer. I told you the Absolute truth yet you keep asking.
The iMac is NOT meant to be taken apart by the END user except for the RAM.
