Hi

Does a DVI connection power the monitor on the original mac mini?

I have not seen a DVI powered monitor. At least none I have messed with. Apple used to use ADC which supplied power to their Apple Displays, but that is now gone in favor of DVI.

DVI cannot power any display, only ADC can as the graphics card was supplemented with a special power input connector.
