iSight

How many megapixels is the iSight built into the iMac?

novicew 04-19-2006 03:40 AM

It is 307200 pixels as far as I can remember. :)

it has the same resolution as the stand-alone iSight.

VGA, 640x480 (0.3 Megapixel)

Keep in mind that it's a webcam, and a higher resolution means higher internet bandwidth requirements.

Right...that is still pretty low though :( the one I have now (Logitech) is 3 Megapixels, and it does just fine.

Wow, you must have quite a huge bandwidth if you can use that at full resolution for video chat...

According to Wikipedia:

"The 1/4-inch color CCD sensor has a 640x480 VGA resolution on the external and internal PPC versions, reportedly a 905x678 resolution on the MacBook Pro and 1280x960 on the Intel Core Duo iMacs."

According to Apple's GSX (global service exchange), they all have 640x480 resolution, even the built-in one's.
Not everything on Wikipedia is correct...
