.Mac help needed ".mac logon failed"

I keep getting "unable to logon to the .mac synchronization server" message when I try to register my computer to sync with my .mac account....has this happened to anyone else? I'm a noob; be gentle.....

The only thing I've found with .Mac logins, is that one area might require your entire username/domain (.Mac e-mail via the web interface for example), but most areas require just the username, *not* followed by the "@.mac" part.

I have been getting odd login errors and such lately. I can only assume it has something to do with their servers.

Update:
I created a new trial account with .Mac and it connected.
Then I logged back in with my original .Mac ID and it synched fine.

don't know if that's the real fix or a coincidence......
