G'day and welcome to the forums.
For starters update Snow Leopard to OS X.6.8 using the Combo Updater from Apple. That may fix your problems. Sounds like your MBP is the mid 2010 model which came with OS X.6.3 and it has never been updated? Here is the link to the download:-
Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1Hang on to those original install discs like grim death! Using OS X.7 or later make a bootable USB thumb drive before running Installer!

Did you get the system install discs with MBP? If not Apple Online is still selling them for $20 including postage. Or for the same money, if the MBP meets the specs, update to Mountain Lion OS X.8 however use LionDiskMaker to make a bootable USB thumb drive prior to running the Installer. From eBay alas it won't be an Apple refurbed machine. Buy those direct from Apple.

The best trick is to install the FastestTube Safari Extension and when ever you go to a YouTube page, there will now be a Download button there, and you click it, and it gives the option to download in 1080p, 720, 480 and 360 . . .
Great little Extension and saves a lot of farting around.Dont forget to use the Reputation System if someone has helped you out !!!

Beware Fastest Tube, I have had issues with it since it started including an adblocker. It causes all kinds of oddities in Safari.
