I have an early 2009 24" Imac.
in the last few weeks every day about 4-5 times it would restart itself into a white error screen. This happens random from what I can tell.
I tried everything, cleared the pram and nvram. smc. everything.
When it reboots itself back to OSX it shows me the report, I don't understand anything in there.
This is the report:

Just based on the report, would have to guess it's a graphics card issue.

You could try running the Apple hardware test.
You will need the original OS X disc that came with your iMac - thinking that would be Leopard or Snow Leopard depending on when it was purchased.
Insert disc 1 into your optical drive, reboot holding down the D key.

But, basically it's time to take it in to Apple and have them run diagnostics on it.

I cannot be held responsible for the things that come out of my mouth.
In the Windows world, most everything folks don't understand is called a virus.

My iMac is getting a frequent, similar crash ever since I upgraded my 2009 iMac from Lion to Mountain Lion whenever I use it as a monitor for my 2011 Macbook Pro. I'm using a DisplayPort to DisplayPort cable, of course it's a Thunderbolt port on my MBP. Btw my old Belkin cable was causing flickering, so I got a new cable and while the flickering is gone, the iMac still get crashes.

It's a kernel crash in com.apple.ATIRadeonX2000(8.1.6) in process WindowServer. No non-apple kernel extensions, no usb or firewire devices plugged in. Crashes happen even if iTunes and browser are closed on the iMac. Tried running NovaBench to force a crash, but it ran fine. The crash usually happens within minutes of going into target display mode (Command-F2), but not always, sometimes it works fine for a few hours before crashing.

Exact same setup was working fine for years when my iMac was Lion (and Snow Leopard before that). The crashes only started since upgrading to Mountain Lion and I verified they happen with a clean install too. Btw y macbook was runnig Lion, tried ML but still get the same crash.

I took both machines into the apple store, they ran diagnostics, no problem found. Doesn't seem worth it to pay hundreds of dollars to try to replace the graphics card or logic board on the iMac.

Hopefully somebody at Apple is seeing all the crash reports I'm sending and fixes it in a ML or Mavericks patch.
