So when using Linux or Windows you have a memory usage, when looking at OS X it gives me a lot of numbers.

"Free: 1.08 GB
Wired: 1.01 GB
Active: 887.7 MB
Inactive: 1.04 GB
Used: 2.92 GB"

Seems like OS X is very memory heavy unless I am missing something. I am starting to consider upgrading to 8 GB of memory.

Awesome, makes perfect sense. I was worried it only showed a little over a GB free.

Glad to help. I remember how confusing this info was the first time I looked at it. I was trying to decide whether or not to add more memory. was on a tight budget (as usual) and didn't want to buy more memory if it wasn't needed.
