I'm wanting to buy an Apple Remote to use with a Mac mini I was given, it's a mid 2007 model. We want to use it primarily for watching movies & for music.

    Specs:
    2011 13" MBP 2.3ghz, 8gig ram, OS 10.8.5
If you're talking about the newer aluminum remote...I'm pretty sure it will work with your Mac-Mini. It will most definitely work with the older white remote.

    Late 2013 27" iMac, iPad 3, iPhone 6s+, iPhone 6+, 3 iPods, Sierra
Like Nick says, it probably will work. I have a very old white Apple remote I bought back in 2008 and it works on every Mac I've tried it on including the newer iMacs. Actually, I can't believe the battery in the thing is still good.

Just wanted to mention. I think that the functionality of both the newer aluminum & older white remotes are the same. The aluminum remote is just a bit "fancier"...and better matches the aluminum exteriors of Mac-Mini's, iMac's, MacBook Pro's, and MacBook Air's.

I've tried both remotes with the Apple TV 3 and they both work fine. I have not tried both of them with the computer but they should work fine.

Yes, infrared is still infrared. If your machine has an infrared sensor, it will work.
