On the iPhoto icon in the dock there is the number "1" in a red circle. I don't know why it is showing and what it means.

Thanks.

It means there is one update for iPhoto waiting to be downloaded. Go the Mac App store and click on updates.

The iPhoto is up to date. I think the "1" has something to do with the icloud which I added today but the photo's are not being uploaded from my iphone to iPhoto. Any other suggestions? Thanks.

If the circle is on the iphoto icon then I had the same thing. Someone had commented on a photo I had published to a photo stream. It showed up as a speech bubble in the corner of the photo when I looked in my photo stream.
