I am a new mac user. I see on the internet that there has been a firmware update in the last few days for macbook pro. I have a mid 2012 with OSX 10.8.2. I am not familiar with this at all. Does apple let you know in any way when firmware updates are available, is it included if I check on my mac under the Apple menu? I have software updates figured out but not firmware.

Oh, firmware update is 1.6.

Firmware updates if applicable are included with other updates from Apple. If your MacBook Pro requires that firmware update, you'll be notified. Do not install a firmware update that's not for your machine as you may cause it to not function.

Yep, that's why I asked before doing anything. Thank you for your info.
