Picture folder duplicate is in trash. I have also added a couple sub-folders to my picture folder in Macbook Pro Lion 10.7, but a duplicate default copy of the folder is in Trash. Can I secure empty trash without disturbing the Picture Folder that is not in trash? ˙ ˙

Yeah. That will only act on things that are in the Trash. If you have a duplicate in the Trash, the other one outside the Trash is its own thing.

Now, you do have a backup system, right?

I don't have a backup system. I should put some "important stuff" on my external HD, but haven't and I
keep reading that people write about setting up Time Machine, which I haven't researched either. Any suggestions?

The external sounds like a plan. I don't have one, or TM, so I use a flash drive.
