Microsoft's Silverlight...

Somewhere in my initation of the Mac OS (Lion), I came across a site that required MS Silverlight. I installed it. I've yet to see where I have used it. If indeed I have. Does it have a place on my or anyone's Mac OS? Is it best to just leave it on my system? Just incase? I've always liked my Linux OSs as clean and free of any unnecessary programs - cleanliness is next to godliness is my motto. At least when it comes to operating systems. I would like to do the same with my Mac system. What say all?

Silverlight is a background API. It is not an app to run. Once installed, it is safe to leave it there and not worry about it.

If you use Netflix, you use Silverlight. Other than that though, it isn't used all that much (at least in my experience). While I understand the need for keeping things trim, it's pretty small so you might want to keep it just in case.

And.. it gets installed automatically if you install Microsoft Office.

It also tries (until the most recent version) to install itself when you download Flip4Mac.

I don't consider it harmful, but I don't use it so I don't want to install it. I was pleased to see the latest Flip4Mac WMV player upgrade gave me the option of not having it.
