I don't know if that will work, but I wouldn't buy cheap RAM. Since you have 2 GB already you have enough (barely) for Lion.

You can up that particular MacBook to 3 Gb (Apple says 2 max). I would take a look at OWC for reccommendations on RAM.

Of course, I know everything . . . I just can't remember it all at once.

And second hand to boot?

Personally buy memory from from Mac specialist such as OWC.

http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/memory/MacBook/DDR2/

Crucial also has a good name.

Hang on to those original install discs like grim death! Using OS X.7 or later make a bootable USB thumb drive before running Installer!

Hynix is a perfectly fine brand (Apple used to use them, may still do for all I know). It sounds like it is compatible, you should give it a spin.

Less than 40 bux.

Why go for the bad stuff?!?!

MacTracker has specs on all current and previous Macs. Good source of info. You can download an APP from the Mac APP store or the IOS version thru iTunes.

Your Macbook will for sure take 3GB. Only issue is you need one 2GB module and one 1GB. With Lion you might need the 3GB RAM. 2GB is the absolute Minimum for Lion.

I do agree with Chas that Apple did use Hynix at one point and I have seen it for sure in a 2008 Macbook.

I also agree that Crucial and Ram from OWC is the safest way to go. Go to OWC and look up your machine.

Apple MacBook Memory DDR2 667MHz up to 6.0GB and up to 750GB Internal Hard Drive upgrades too

The ram in the Compaq is faster and should work but what size is the chip? You will need 2 sticks. I would go with matched RAM and not one brand from here and one from there.
