I just downloaded Lion and set up Icould, but cannot figure out how to get things to the cloud and retrieve from cloud. Example, can I put my iTunes on the cloud and then download elsewhere? I am not very computer literate, so please answer in layman's terms.
Thank you!

Hi nbjordan,
As long as you haven't stored your music and other docs in another folder besides your user folder, they will automatically be available in any device which you sign into your iCloud account with.

I don't have any other apple equipment, but it was my understanding that music from iTunes could be downloaded from the cloud to a non apple device. Is this not the case? Thank you!

It is the case, but they were referring to (only) Windows computers, since that is the only non-Apple device that can run iTunes.

iTunes is the key to the whole thing. If you want to utilize the service with mobile devices (smartphones, tablets), they must be Apple smartphones or tablets because they have to be able to run iTunes.

iCloud is NOT a generic cloud data storage system like Dropbox or others. It isn't designed to be a system where you store data (be it music, videos, or documents) and then retrieve them from any other arbitrary location or device..

iCloud is tightly coupled with iTunes and iOS devices to provide a mechanism to synchronize music, apps, and many more things seamlessly across all iOS devices, so that you can use multiple devices to do a task as opposed to doing it all on an island..
