This sounds like a small problem, however it's caused font sizes to be far too small on most sites which is a major pain. I can obviously increase the font size in the toolbar for each site though that’s a crappy workaround. It makes browsing awfully tedious.

I "think" I've discovered the font problem. Ever since updating to Safari 5.1.5 as soon as the update appeared in March?, the universal access box in advanced preferences to choose the font size won't let me check the box. I've tried searching for possible answers and haven't been able to find any related troubleshooting info.

I'm running Snow Leopard 10.5.8 if that makes any difference.
Hopefully this makes sense to someone. Not an easy thing to explain as I found while searching for answers. Any help would be beyond appreciated. I've spent far too much time on this.

Side note: Dr. Web also says I may have flashback, however when I ran a script in terminal, all seemed to be well. Even though I've used Macs for 4 years, I'm just not that savvy on the ins & outs of under the hood stuff. I seriously doubt that flashback would have anything to do with Safari. Just thought I'd throw that out there.

Many thanks.

Flashback has everything to do with a web browser (any web browser -- on any platform). It's a Trojan that exploits holes (originally in Flash, thus the name) and now in Java.

I'm not sure what version you're on, but it sounds like you're on Leopard, not Snow Leopard (10.6). If so, you should disable the Java (not JavaScript, it's fine) in Safari's preferences.

While it's unlikely that you've actually already gotten this latest Flashback variant, especially if "Dr. Web" says so, it's possible. Try this free detector:

Download Anti Flashback-Trojan for Mac - Checks for, and removes, Flashback Trojan. MacUpdate.com

It does not remove the malware if it finds it, despite the description. It can only detect whether you have it.

In any event, I just checked my Safari 5.1.5 and was able to check the advanced preferences box you spoke of. Might be time for a permission repair while you're at it.

Apologies, page wouldn't load when I first posted, so I tried again. Ack, yet another glitch I've been having lately. It won't happen again (she said hopefully).
