Hi,
I have a Macbook and just bought an iPod shuffle. I had bought a Scandisk but had so much trouble that I returned it. I just mention that because the Scandisk may have screwed up my iTunes. Anyway, when I attach my iPod there's no recognition by either my MacBook nor the iTunes software. The problem is probably related to the fact that I can't update my iTunes software. When I try, the installation stops and requires me to close the iTunes application. Even after closing iTunes the installation doesn't proceed. I've done a complete shut down and power up with no luck. I thinking maybe I need to delete iTunes and re-install but I'd like some advice. Thanks. Alex |

Welcome to Mac-Forums
How old is your Macbook? What version of OS X? What version of iTunes do you have now? Can you uninstall the current version and install the latest version supported by your OS? -- Regards ...Ashwin Be sure to read the Community Guidelines | The more information you provide, the better answers you get, remember GIGO. |

also in your itunes, check what your preferences are, specifically under 'devices' and 'advanced' as well as check on your ipod if you have anything set in it that may prevent it from linking (I've never memorized the settings so I'm not sure if there might be any). I'm not sure if itunes will automatically give you a pop-up telling/asking if you want to give ownership (I think that's what it's does/called). You may also need check under Disk utility and fix preferences (or use Onyx or something like that). I'm not sure but you may need to find the preferences for you itunes (it sounds like you itunes had issues before you reinstalled) and either put them in the trash (and don't deleted yet) or save them on your desktop to see if that helps anything. In Snow Leopard, it also may show in Image Capture or Disk Utility..
Hope that helps
