Is there a way to quickly minimize all open window to reveal the home desktop?

Since you are on Lion, there is a trackpad gesture for it.

You can also do Cmd + F3, or Fn + F11

It doesn't exactly minimize the windows, but it spreads them off the screen so you can use and manipulate things on the desktop.
